Daniel is a serial entrepreneur and executive level business consultant with over 12 years of operational leadership and business development experience.  In his current role as Director of Business Engagement at Indiana State University, Daniel utilizes a vast network of campus and community resources to provide entrepreneurs and companies with the guidance and expertise that they need to become more successful.  Daniel also provides leadership and actively mentors entrepreneurial and innovation-driven start-up businesses as well as existing business owners who are in need of development support.  In 2016, Daniel created the Sycamore Innovation Lab on the Indiana State University campus as a means to offer physical space, educational seminars, and tech related equipment to assist in the development of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in the state of Indiana.  Daniel has been an active real estate investor since 1998, owning real estate investment properties in three states. He is the co-founder and Vice President of The Sycamore Winery, LLC, the first winery in Vigo County, Indiana.  Daniel is also the prior owner of Howard Clare Insurance, a successful independent insurance agency that he sold in 2014.  He is still heavily involved as an insurance consultant and insurance policy advocate. In 1996, Daniel began his insurance career with a small, independent insurance agency.  He has since worked for the nation’s largest private insurance brokerage, and one of the largest bank-owned agencies in the U.S.  His agency and broker experience range from agency management activities, account management, and sales and new business development.  Daniel earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University.  He has a major in Business Management and minors in Insurance and Risk Management and Criminology.  Also, Daniel earned an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri.  Daniel holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and Certified Risk Manager (CRM) professional designations and is a licensed agent in several states.  Daniel is deeply involved with development activities at Indiana State University.  He proudly served as an adjunct professor from 2006 to 2013 in the schools Risk Management & Insurance Department.  He has seven years of teaching experience at the collegiate level, with instructional experience in the classroom and online.  Also, Daniel is a member of Indiana State University’s President’s Advisory Board, the Insurance Advisory Council, and a former member of the Young Professionals Board.  He was named as a Graduate Of the Last Decade in 2010.
